Victorian vanity box, jewellery box
A beautiful Victorian rosewood dressing table / vanity box with two small perfume bottles and two glass jars with plated lids. It has various compartments with a lift out tray which covers the front two-thirds of the box. Beneath that is a larger space where larger items of jewellery could be stored.
It has a working lock and key and the plush velvet is original.
As might be expected for a box that is over 100 years old, it has some signs of wear. One of the lids is missing its dainty handle and the paper lining is slightly torn at the bottom of the flap to the underside of the lid - please have a look at the photographs. It could be glued in place. One of the stoppers to the perfume bottles is stuck. It may come off with a little bit of persuasion. The stitching has disintegrated on the padded strap on one of the compartment lids. Again, this could be repaired, but we prefer to leave the box in its current condition so as to preserve its authenticity. The signs of wear we have mentioned do not detract from the overall integrity and beauty of this antique box.
