Sewing box with fitted interior
This is a stunning sewing box, circa 1900, with inlaid wood trimming the edges to emphasise its sarcophagus shape, and a rectangular brass escutcheon on the lid. It would also be ideal as a jewellery box.
The interior is lined in green velvet and houses a tray with separate compartments for thimbles, thread, buttons, as well as a green velvet pin cushion. One of the small dividers is missing on the tray but this in no way detracts from the wonderful quality of the box. The tray lifts out to reveal another level where larger sewing utensils can be stored.
It has its original working lock and key, to which a pretty tassel has been added.
