Javanese Wayang Golek puppets
A collectable pair of vintage Wayang Golek Indonesian stick puppets, approximately 65 years old.
Each is individually hand painted, with batik clothes. The gentleman's jacket is made of heavier cloth with decorative trim. He has no skirt.
They operate by moving the body up and down a central wooden column and the arms are attached to rods that move in all directions, transforming the puppets from static to surprisingly expressive.
Note that the rod that operates the gentleman's left hand is broken. It could easily be replaced but we prefer to present the puppets as we found them so as not to interfere with their authenticity.
The paintwork is mostly in great condition apart from a little nick on the man's nose.
