French nut bowl & nutcracker
An unusual and elegant French nut bowl, turned in mellow-toned wood - possibly fruit wood.
Dating from the beginning of the 20th century, it has an intricately carved geometric border design. The central section, where you place the nuts and hammer them lightly to get them out of their shell, has a copper covering that is in wonderful condition considering its great age.
There is some discoloration of the wood on the base, not visible when the bowl is upright.
It comes with a silver plate nutcracker (5.5" (14cm) long).
