Carved needle case #6
An exquisite wooden needle case or holder, dating circa 1900, possibly Black Forest in origin. It has decorative carvings around the middle that reveal a lighter coloured wood, while the ends are carved with a studded pattern in contrasting darker wood.
One end can be easily removed so the needles can be inserted. The lid is the size of a thimble. It has a little crack but closes firmly nevertheless.
The case would be a beautiful addition to any sewing basket or as part of a collection.
Ladies often carried sewing needles in cases like this one when travelling so that they could quickly mend their clothes if necessary when far from home.
